Port Congestion
At present, Cat Lai, the biggest port in Vietnam, faces a serious problem, port congestion. Along with the situation increases, the goods delay seriously.
For the reason, someone thinks China controls strictly imports of solid waste since the end of 2017, Vietnam’s imports of plastic, papers and other wastes have been increasing. More and more goods gather in Cat Lai port, which brings port congeation.
In response to the current status of Cat Lai Port, South Korean shipping company Sinokor has announced that it will stop accepting plastic garbage cargo from Cat Lai Port on June 10th!
According to local media reports, from late April to early May, Cat Lai Port had 8,050 containers. Although there were some delays in the National Holidays Customs, plastic wastes and paper accounted for 5,234 TEUs, and 2,816 TEUS were not processed. All containers may wait 90 days or more!
So Ho Chi Minh customs, the ports, and the port operators, and other parties, held a meeting earlier in this month, to discuss the measures to ease the current stagnation. They have agreed to take action, including indentifying the permits for importing wastes, resettle the containers delaying for 30 days or more, in order to reduce the loss for the importers.
However, as the containers stagnate to Ho Chi Minh in Cai Mep and Hiep Phuoc, it’s expected to that the currect congestion will last some time.
