Duplex stainless steel (DSS for short),means ferrite and austenite each accounts for about 50%. Generally the less composition reaches 30% at least.When it has little carbon,the content of Cr is between 18% and 28%,and Ni is between 3% and 10%.Some steel includes Mo,Cu,Nb,Ti,N and other alloy elements.
This kind of steel has features of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel.Comparing with ferrite,it has better plasticity and higher toughness,no room temperature brittleness,and improved significantly intergranular corrosion resistance and welding performance.At the same time,it keeps 475℃ brittleness of ferritic stainless steel, high coefficient of heat contacting and superplasticity.In addition,comparing with austenitic stainless steel, DS’s strength is much higher,its intergranular corrosion resistance and chloride stress corrosion are slightly improved.
